How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Orthodontists regularly face the question of how much does invisalign cost when dealing with first time patients in need of corrective treatment for their teeth.

A simple answer is that invisalign costs just slightly more than regular braces yet the benefits are totally worth it. Naturally, your doctor will not be able to give an exact figure until you go for a consultation.

The final costs are determined by individual needs of the patient such as the number of alignments needed, the complexity of your teeth’s movements, and even your geographical location.

In light of these, nationwide estimates put the final cost of invisalign at between $2,000 and $8,000.

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, the average costs are approximately $5,000 per patient. There are patients who get charged even less than $2,000 if their individual cases are simple and only require fewer than 5 sets of aligners.

Insurance cover for invisalign

Invisalign CostMost insurers provide cover for invisalign as part of their dental cover, just as they would cover other orthodontic treatments such as braces.

Typically, the cover will be over $500 though the rates vary from insurer to insurer. However, some insurance companies classify invisalign as cosmetic treatment in the same way they would classify teeth whitening or removing a mole.

Most Medicaid insurance holders will not be eligible for invisalign cover depending on their State though those with the original Medicare or Part B Medicare may be partially or even fully covered. Call your insurer for exact figures of the extent of their coverage.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Most companies offer their employees a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) which enables employees afford expensive medical treatments and procedures.

This is done by deductions of a portion of the paycheck elected by the employee which go to qualified medical expenses. These deductions are not subject to payroll taxes. Once you have undergone any medical treatment or procedure, you submit your receipts to your FSA provider for reimbursement.

If you are an employee and your company offers a Flexible Spending Account, consult your benefits department before visiting an orthodontist so as to ascertain that the consultation and costs of invisalign are covered by your FSA provider.

Other Payment Options

Covering the costs of invisalign can get very expensive as we have seen. If your insurance does not cover the costs or the cover is inadequate and you lack an employee flexible spending account, then you might need to talk with your orthodontist or your invisalign provider.

Most orthodontists are knowledgeable about payments plans offered by invisalign providers in your area and though orthodontists are not financial consultants, this knowledge might benefit you to pick the best invisalign provider offering the best terms.

Some doctors also offer payment plans directly for qualified patients who need financial assistance in covering their invisalign treatment costs.

The financing options offered by orthodontists and invisalign providers enable the patient to make affordable monthly payments stretched over a long period of time. This ensures that patients get their treatment on time without worrying unduly about finances.

  1. I agree, While compared to Traditional Clear braces, Invisalign Costs slightly high. Although a portion of this cost can be shouldered by your health insurance provider(Aetna, Cigna, Anthem, Delta Dental, etc).
