How Much Do Dentures Cost?

Dentures

If asked the question “how much do dentures cost?” then the range is so wide it would confuse the patient.

For instance, you can get dentures for as low as $250 while others may cost as high as $10,000.

This is because there are many factors affecting how much you are going to be charged.

Dental Services

One of the primary considerations when computing the cost of dentures is the cost of the dentist’s services. The dentist will prescribe the required dentures for your particular case. Apart from that, s/he will prepare your mouth for your new dentures and do the fitting.

This may involve the removal of additional teeth, the extraction of bone fragments, and stitching up of the gums. These will attract total charges of as low as $100 and as high as $5,000 from a regular dentist.

A prosthodontist will charge even higher figures as s/he is more specialized to the task. The whole denture-fitting procedure may take between 3 and 10 visits to be completed.

Type of denture

The type of denture and the material it is made from has a direct correlation to the overall charges. Cobalt chrome dentures come at a steeper price compared to acrylic base dentures.

Typical charges are between $900 and $2,000 for purchasing cobalt chrome dentures and between $600 and $1,200 for acrylic dentures. Flexidentures come at a price of between $800 and $1,400.

Number of teeth

The number of affected teeth when fitting dentures will determine the amount charged. Most dentists will charge figures close to between $30 and $50 per tooth. Note that partial dentures are usually more expensive compared to full dentures.

Teeth retainers

Your dentures need some metallic clasps that hold your teeth together and keep the dentures in place. These metallic clasps, commonly known as retainers, usually make up the metal framework for cobalt chrome dentures and will be included in the price.

However, they are not part of the acrylic dentures and will need to be ordered separately. This will usually require between 2 and 5 retainers with each costing approximately $40.

Immediate Dentures

It may be necessary to make immediate dentures and this often requires the addition of immediate teeth to avoid leaving the patient with gaps.

This additional tooth is usually added to the denture in advance and fitted immediately after extraction. The cost of each immediate tooth is around $40.

Dental Attachments

To make for a better fit and retention, dentists will sometimes add precision attachments to your dentures. This will involve some dental crowning and this will cost you so much extra in the tune of between $400 and $3,000. The attachment itself plus fitting will cost another $300 to $1,000.

Implant-retained dentures

If the patient has weakened gums that are unable to support the natural teeth, then it may be necessary to fit implants.

This is generally a titanium screw that is fused with your jaw and used for replacing your missing tooth. Each implant may cost between $1,000 and $2,500.
