How much does it cost to install hardwood floors is a question for many tenants who intend to renovate their house and give it a new look.
A good looking and well finished hardwood floor will require lots of tools and labour therefore the cost is almost equally divided among the two.
The installation work may not be difficult if you are working along with a friend as this will go a long way into saving your fortune.
Hardwood floor installation is usually estimated on a square foot basis i.e. hardwood floors may go for as low as $2 per square foot.
Tools that you will require to install hardwood floors are:
Nails – You will need some special kind of nails for the hardwood floor which can be purchased at any local store close to your premises. A box of nail usually carries close to a thousand nails and goes for about $20.Considering that the nails are to be placed every few inches then you will probably need five boxes.
Saw – The best saw to use is the table saw or power miter saw as they will offer you clean and straight cuts altogether in less time compared to others. These saws can be purchased for as low as $200 each.
Drill Bit And Drill – Drills are essential in preparing the wood. The cost of a drill may be less than $100.
Floor Nailer – If you are dealing with a few rooms then you don’t need an expensive one. With $200 you will be able to acquire one.
However, if you are installing hardwood floor in the entire house then you will have to go for an expensive one of at least $400. Remember some of these tools can be sold after the job and you will be able to get some of your money back.
Wood – The cost of the wood required will be determined by the floor space. Find the product of the room’s length and the width in order to get the area in square feet.
Hardwood floors will go for as low as $2 per square feet depending on the quality therefore multiply the square feet of the room by the cost per square feet of wood to get the total cost i.e. a 25 feet by 20 feet room is 500 square feet.
You will require an additional 10% wood for scrap purposes hence totaling to 550 square feet. This multiplied by $2 gives you total of $1100 for the floor.
You will also require some rosin papers and transition pieces. A room with two 3 foot doorways will require at least two transition pieces each piece costing $30.
On the other hand rosin paper for the same room will go for at least $13. Rosin papers are used to prevent the wood floor and the subfloor from rubbing against each other.
Total Cost:
The total cost of installing a hardwood floor maybe expensive as tools alone may cost you up to $600.Wood flooring will end up costing up to $1200 both for a single room.
You will need approximately $150 for other expenses. However, installing a hardwood floor for your house will go a long way to increasing your home’s value.
